The idea tycoon Reinhard Eberhart doesn't hesitate to talk about his flops: in 1990 an extensive critical documentation for the 70th anniversary of the 1920 referendum in Carinthia, titled 'A life in unity', turned out to be a flop; promised subsidies didn't materialise and from an edition of 20,000 copies only 350 were sold; losses ran into millions of schillings and led to bankruptcy. Nevertheless, the book to which 150 renowned scholars, authors, artists, journalists and politicians contributed has become a standard reference work in questions of the 1920 referendum [that confirmed Carinthia's ties to Austria]; when in 1992 Eberhart issued tickets at ATS 333.- each for 'carnival wakening' in Velden at Lake Wörthersee, only 10 people were willing to pay the price.
