Would-be governor of Carinthia and front runner of The Best Party in the state elections on March 13, 1994 and in the elections to the National Assembly on October 9, 1994 and December 17, 1995; in the local elections on March 9, 1996, Reinhard Eberhart entered the political arena running for the office of mayor of Klagenfurt; in a touching letter of self-recommendation, dated January 30, 1994, he applied to Mr Julius Eberhart for the status of adopted nephew:
"Yoo hoo, dear uncle Julius, Hannes Androsch* had a foster uncle, who became famous. Albeit after passing away. I would like to have a foster uncle, who enjoys a happy adopted nephew in his time. That's why I, Reinhard Eberhart, director of carnival, would-be governor of Carinthia, founder and front runner of The Best Party, contender for C.E.O of the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation, have chosen you to be my foster uncle. That you are my namesake is purely coincidental and has been all the more reason to decide for you. I congratulate you on my decision and I will pay you a visit in the next couple of days."

*Translator's note: H.A., former Austrian finance minister, notoriously defended charges of tax evasion during his term of office by claiming to have made financial deals with a by then deceased 'foster uncle' to save taxes. This 'Wahlonkel' is a (male) person outside the family who for some reason or other wants strangers to profit from his riches. In the case of H.A. this person may or may not have existed. Eventually H.A. was convicted of tax evasion.
